Team Cook Islands 2027: expressions of interest open for the Polynesian Champs and Pacific Games
Athletics Cook Islands is taking expressions of interest for Team Cook Islands at two big events in 2027: the Polynesian Athletics Championships in Auckland and the Pacific Games in Tahiti. The ACI Board has approved the selection documents, and one form covers both teams.
Expressions of interest close on Friday 4 December 2026.
Polynesian Champs, Auckland
The championships run from 11 to 14 March 2027. Athletes from all age groups the Championships offer can apply. There are no separate ACI trials: send your recent results, your events and your coach's details. You need to have achieved the minimum Cook Islands standard (Schedule B of the General Selection Policy) between 1 January 2026 and 28 February 2027.
The trip is self-funded: flights, accommodation, meals, transport and insurance. ACI covers entry fees, uniform and team manager costs. Athletes selected for the Athletics New Zealand Pacific Project are fully funded under that programme, subject to confirmation. Please don't book non-refundable travel until ACI confirms your place.
Pacific Games, Tahiti
Athletics runs from 31 July to 6 August 2027. Athletes must be at least 16 by 31 December 2027, and Cook Islands athletes living overseas are welcome to apply. ACI expects to nominate about 10 to 15 athletes.
- Qualifying results count from 1 October 2026 to 15 March 2027, at properly officiated competitions with official results
- Optional trials are planned in the Cook Islands from 17 to 20 March 2027
- The team is due to be confirmed by 31 March 2027: the ACI Board approves nominations and CISNOC confirms the team
The athlete contribution and travel arrangements are still to be confirmed.
How to apply
Read the approved documents and the qualifying standards on the Team Cook Islands 2027 page, then fill in the one expression of interest form there. Under-18 athletes need a parent or guardian's consent.
