Cook Islands athletes in Christchurch: let's connect
There are Cook Islanders all over New Zealand, and plenty of them love their athletics. We would love to see more of the Cook Islands athletics community come together in Christchurch.
Vern Holden, who lives in Christchurch, is the local contact. In his words: "I'd love to grow the Cook Islands people down in Christchurch, and they can contact me."
Who is this for?
Anyone in Christchurch with a Cook Islands connection and an interest in athletics:
- athletes of any age and any event, from first-timers to seasoned competitors
- parents and families of young athletes
- coaches, officials and volunteers
Why get in touch?
- Meet other Cook Islands athletes and families in Christchurch
- Hear about Athletics Cook Islands trials, teams and news
- Find out whether you are eligible to represent the Cook Islands. Many people are, without ever having lived there
You can chase Cook Islands qualification standards without leaving home. Events on the official Athletics New Zealand calendar count as qualifying events under the ACI selection policy.
What this is, and what it is not
This is a community connection, not a new club or squad. Selection for Cook Islands teams is made by the ACI selection panel under the published selection policy.
